The Baja Sur Challenge began as a passion project—an official AIDA International-sanctioned competition created by Hipoxia Freediving to bring the local freediving community the experience of challenging themselves..
Designed for beginners and intermediate divers, our mission was simple:
Prioritize fun, learning, and connection over pure competition.
The Evolution of a Dream
2022
Launched as a pool-only event, bringing local divers together to test their skills in static and dynamic apnea.
2024
Took a monumental leap by adding depth disciplines, attracting athletes from 5 different countries—and smashing 8 national records.
2025
Expanding further with two distinct phases (pool + depth) in iconic Baja locations, supported by 10 sponsors and a growing international community.
